Don’t take our word for it–our transformed clients can speak for themselves. At SCAC, we pride ourselves on giving addicts their lives back, and that includes their own voices. When addiction takes hold of a life, it is not truly a life at all; the addict has been denied the freedom of joy, love, fulfillment, and often, even basic comforts.
No human being can be who they were meant to be under those circumstances, and we are of a mind to change all that. The road to recovery begins with the return of the real person beneath the addiction. Once they are transformed into their new selves, one of the most wonderful gifts clients receive is the ability to see and speak honestly about who they are and who they used to be.

Michele, 44 - Benzodiazepines
I am married with two children. I was prescribed Xanax to help my anxiety. I was told to take it on a daily basis but I never knew I could become addicted to it six weeks later. It started to change me and it was an absolute nightmare. I’ve now been off Xanax for six months but I gave two years of my life to this medication. I finally have peace. It was through the staff and through my group therapy that I learned to manage my anxiety instead of medicating it. It amazes me more each day to have a clear mind and I feel at peace because of it.

Jorge, 23 - Marijuana
I started smoking marijuana at the age of 13. I thought this was normal and it had become my normal, until I found myself living on the streets at the age of 16. I grew up in a normal household but my only problem is that I never fit in. It played a big role into why I started smoking marijuana in the first place. I thought I was the only person in the whole world and stopping was no longer an option. I had forgotten what it felt like to have a clear head until I reached an all-time low. My family stepped in and got me the help I needed. I have noticed a vast improvement in my life, and it can only get better. The best advice I can give you is take a commitment to sober living. Your life is still worth living.

Veronica, 19 - Methamphetamine
I grew up in a very dysfunctional family. My father was an alcoholic and growing up in a house like that was not fun. I started using meth at the age of 16 and prior to that I was molested. Drugs seemed like the only answer because I was severely depressed. I started using Meth every day and it was my escape. I loved it and did it daily, which evolved to using other drugs. I finally surrendered and that was my moment. I finally stopped fighting and knew I could not do it on my own. I stopped resisting and finally good things happened in my life. I started to trust people and not hate myself. On every level my life got better. I take it one day at a time.

AMAR, 35 - COCAINE
It was scary to pick up that phone and call for help. But in reality, it was a lot scarier to continue what I was doing. If I could do this, I know you can too. Once you accept that you have a problem, that’s your first step to living your life. I am no longer running away from my problems. I am now a survivor cocaine addiction. It’s empowering to know what I have accomplished but I credit that to my team because I know I could not have done it on my own.

DESTINY, 27 - PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
I was fed up and drugs made me feel tough. I would steal and I would lie. I was hooked and it got me so bad. I never thought I was going to be able to get out of it. No one understood. I finally went to my family and asked for help. Going through detox with the support of my counselor changed my life. I have now been clean for over five months and I am not ashamed anymore. I want to help others and sharing my story could change someone’s life. I remember there was no judgment in rehabilitation and that was important for my recovery. I felt very safe and learned so much from others.

DANNY, 52 - ALCOHOLISM
I never wanted to admit that I was an alcoholic. I thought I could break the habit on my own but each time my will power took over and I turned to the bottle. Once I got the help I needed, I realized I am not alone in my journey and being around people that had the same struggle really helped me get the support I needed. I have the tools and support I now need and going through rehabilitation was the best decision I have ever made. I have my life back and it’s never too late to reclaim yours. I am proud to say I have been sober for almost one year.
